Issue/Question:

MP Marilène Gill published an open letter in the Journal de Montréal denouncing Canada Post’s delivery times in several municipalities of the Côte-Nord in Quebec.

Suggested Response:

  • I understand that Canada Post has been in regular contact with the member’s office about this matter and is familiar with the issues outlined in her open letter
    • At her request, Canada Post is scheduling a meeting to continue the discussions that have already started on the issue and to explore options to provide more consistent service despite numerous logistical challenges

Background:

Member of Parliament Marliène Gill (Manicouagan, BQ) raised the issue of long-standing delays in Canada Post package delivery, using the area of Côte-Nord as an example. She states that residents are not receiving medications in a timely way due to these delays, and that it is affecting the general health of constituents living in a relatively remote location. Mme Gill also states that she has reached out to Canada Post with proposed solutions including enhanced tracking and a visual check of packages containing medications for triage, but has not received any response to her inquiries from either Canada Post, or the Minister responsible. She has indicated that, as a next step, she will be sending comment cards to her constituents, which, once filled out, would be presented to Minister Tassi and the representative for Canada Post in Quebec.

December 15, 2021 – Canada Post’s Official Statement sent to the Journal de Montréal:

Thank you for contacting us. Canada Post is in contact with Ms. Gill's office and is familiar with the issues and demands outlined in the open letter from MP Ms. Marilène Gill published today.

At her request, we will be scheduling a meeting to continue the discussions already started.
