2019-20 Main Estimates

*The Government of Canada is taking action to advance gender equality and address persistent gender inequalities that affect all Canadians.

*The Department for Women and Gender Equality received $114.0M in the 2019-20 Main Estimates, which is a net increase of $51.7M from the previous year Main Estimates.

*Of the $51.7M net increase:

o $32.4M is for Grants and Contributions related to sustainability for Women’s Program, the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls Commemoration Fund and the Gender-Based Violence Program; and
o $10M announced in Budget 2019 is to Advance Gender Equality.

Main Estimates are part of the normal parliamentary approval process to ensure that previously planned government initiatives receive the necessary funding to move them forward, therefore meeting the needs of Canadians.

The Department received $114.0M in total funding for 2019-20:
o $44.6M Operating expenditures ($7.8M increase due to augmented Full Time Equivalent);
o $55.1M Grants and Contributions ($32.4M increase attributable to sustainability for Women’s Program, the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls Commemoration Fund and the Gender-Based Violence Program);
o $10.0M Advancing Gender Equality; and
o $4.3M Statutory funding (Employee Benefit Plan $4.2M, Minister’s salary & car $87.7K).
