2019-20 Supplementary Estimates (A) – Budget 2019 funding for capacity building of LGBTQ2 community organizations

*The Government of Canada believes that promoting equality, protecting rights, and addressing discrimination against LGBTQ2 people is critical to achieving equality for all people in Canada.

*This is why the Department for Women and Gender Equality will receive $20M over three years for capacity building and community-level work of Canadian LGBTQ2 organizations.

*In 2019-20, $2M from the Supplementary Estimates (A) will help address the disparities faced by LGBTQ2 individuals by supporting LGBTQ2 organizations, under the new Equality for Sex, Sexual Orientation, Gender Identity and Expression Program.

Supplementary Estimates are part of the normal parliamentary approval process to ensure that previously planned government initiatives receive the necessary funding to move them forward, therefore meeting the needs of Canadians.

Through the Supplementary Estimates (A), Parliament will be asked to approve budgetary funding of $2.0M in Grants and Contributions for fiscal year 2019-20 for Women and Gender Equality Canada for capacity-building of LGBTQ2 organizations.

Through the Equality for SSOGIE Program, the LGBTQ2 Community Capacity Fund was created, the first federal program specifically targeting LGBTQ2 communities.
