As required by the Treasury Board Directive on Travel, Hospitality, Conference and Event Expenditures, this report provides information on travel, hospitality and conference expenditures for Canada Border Services Agency for the fiscal year ended March 31, 2020.

Travel, hospitality and conference expenditures incurred by a federal department or agency relate to activities that support the department or agency’s mandate and the government’s priorities.

Mandate:

The Canada Border Services Agency is responsible for providing integrated border services that support national security and public safety priorities and facilitate the free flow of persons and goods, including animals and plants, that meet all requirements under the program legislation.

Explanation of significant variances compared with previous fiscal year

Total travel:

Compared with fiscal year 2018-2019, departmental travel expenditures increased by $ 2.3 million or 5.8%. The increase is mostly in the operational activities, caused by the increase in removal activities and mandatory training for the Border Services Officers.

Hospitality:

Not applicable (no significant variance).

Conference fees:

Not applicable (no significant variance).
