Explanation of significant variances compared with previous fiscal year

Total travel:

Compared with fiscal year 2017-18, departmental travel expenditures increased mainly due to an increase in speaking engagements CCOHS attended to create awareness about current occupational health and safety issues; staff training; and expenses related to CCOHS` 2019 Forum: The Changing World of Work. This tripartite national event featured expert speakers, panel discussions, interactive events and a showcase of innovation and best practices.

Hospitality:

Compared with fiscal year 2017-18, departmental hospitality expenditures increased mainly due to: meeting expenditures relating to CCOHSCouncil of Governors meetings. CCOHS is governed by a tripartite council representing labour, employers, and government (federal, provincial and territorial). The Council assists in overseeing a policy framework for a trustworthy and complete occupational health and safety service and ensures that the information CCOHS disseminates is unbiased. Even though this years expenditures were slightly higher, CCOHS continues its efforts to reduce hospitality expenditures by promoting a cost-conscious culture.

Conference fees:

Compared with fiscal year 2017-18, departmental conference expenditures increased mainly due to: an increase in events, exhibits and/or presentations CCOHS attended to create awareness about current occupational health and safety issues to support employers, labour, governmental groups and Indigenous Peoples.
