As required by the Treasury Board Directive on Travel, Hospitality, Conference and Event Expenditures, this report provides information on travel, hospitality and conference expenditures for Federal Economic Development Agency for Northern Ontario for the fiscal year ended March 31, 2026.

Travel, hospitality and conference expenditures incurred by a federal department or agency relate to activities that support the department or agency’s mandate and the government’s priorities.

Mandate:

Expenditures on travel, hospitality and conference fees incurred by federal departments and agencies are related to activities that support a departmental or agency mandate and the government’s priorities. In particular, for FedNor, this includes promoting economic development for organization located in Northern Ontario playing an important role in helping deliver on the federal government's Prosperity and Growth Strategy for Northern Ontario.

Explanation of significant variances compared with previous fiscal year

Total travel:

Compared with fiscal year 2024-25, departmental travel expenditures have increased due to costs related to the FedNor Forum, the first gathering of all FedNor staff since 2019, required to address operational and planning requirements as well as develop staff communication and coordination.


Hospitality:

Compared with fiscal year 2024-25, departmental hospitality expenditures did not fluctuate significantly.

Conference fees:

Compared with fiscal year 2024-25, departmental conference fee expenditures increased as a result of staff training and networking in sectors that align with new temporary programs, such as defence, artificial intelligence, and housing.
