As required by the Treasury Board Directive on Travel, Hospitality, Conference and Event Expenditures, this report provides information on travel, hospitality and conference expenditures for Department of Finance Canada for the fiscal year ended March 31, 2022.
Travel, hospitality and conference expenditures incurred by a federal department or agency relate to activities that support the department or agency’s mandate and the government’s priorities.
Mandate:
The Department helps the Government of Canada develop and implement strong and sustainable economic, fiscal, tax, social, security, international and financial sector policies and programs. It plays an important central agency role, working with other departments to ensure that the government’s agenda is carried out and that Ministers are supported with high-quality analysis and advice.

Explanation of significant variances compared with previous fiscal year
Total travel:
In comparison to fiscal year 2020-21, departmental travel expenditures increased by $325 thousand as a result of pandemic-related travel restrictions being lifted.
Hospitality:
In comparison to fiscal year 2020-21, departmental hospitality expenditures decreased by $2 thousand as a result of a one-time hospitality expense in the previous year.
Conference fees:
In comparison to fiscal year 2020-21, departmental conference fees increased by $13 thousand as a result of increased conference attendance due to a reduction in pandemic-related restrictions.Minister and minister’s exempt staff - International travel:
In comparison to fiscal year 2020-21, expenditures for international travel by the Minister of Finance and the Minister’s staff increased by $92 thousand, due to a reduction in pandemic-related travel restrictions.
