As required by the Treasury Board Directive on Travel, Hospitality, Conference and Event Expenditures, this report provides information on travel, hospitality and conference expenditures for Office of the Commissioner of Lobbying of Canada for the fiscal year ended March 31, 2023.

Travel, hospitality and conference expenditures incurred by a federal department or agency relate to activities that support the department or agency’s mandate and the government’s priorities.

Mandate:

Expenditures on travel, hospitality and conference fees incurred by federal departments and agencies are related to activities that support a departmental or agency mandate and the government’s priorities. In particular, for OCL, the mandate is stated in the Lobbying Act and covers three areas of activity: maintaining a registry of lobbyists that is accessible to Canadians; fostering greater awareness of the requirements of the Lobbying Act through education and outreach; and ensuring compliance with the legislation and the Lobbyists’ Code of Conduct.

Explanation of significant variances compared with previous fiscal year

Total travel:

Compared with fiscal year 2021-22, the office travel expenditures increased due to the lifting of Covid-19 pandemic restrictions.


Hospitality:

Compared with fiscal year 2021-22, the office hospitality expenditures increased due to the lifting of Covid-19 pandemic restrictions.

Conference fees:

Compared with fiscal year 2021-22, the office conference fees expenditures did not have a significant change.
