As required by the Treasury Board Directive on Travel, Hospitality, Conference and Event Expenditures, this report provides information on travel, hospitality and conference expenditures for Office of the Information Commissioner of Canada for the fiscal year ended March 31, 2023.
Travel, hospitality and conference expenditures incurred by a federal department or agency relate to activities that support the department or agency’s mandate and the government’s priorities.
Mandate:
Expenditures on travel, hospitality and conference fees incurred by the Office of the Information Commissioner of Canada support the Office’s mandate. In particular, for the Office of the Information Commissioner of Canada, this includes being the first level of independent review of government decisions relating to requests for access to information under the control of government institutions. The second level of independent review is performed by the Federal Court.

Explanation of significant variances compared with previous fiscal year
Total travel:
Compared to fiscal year 2021-22, travel expenditures increased mainly due to the relaxation of COVID-19 restrictions. This led to an increase in the number of trips.
Hospitality:
Compared to fiscal year 2021-22, hospitality expenditures increased mainly due to the relaxation of COVID-19 restrictions. This led to an increase in physical presence meetings.
Conference fees:
Compared to fiscal year 2021-22, conference expenditures increased mainly due to the relaxation of COVID-19 restrictions. This led to an increase in the number of conferences attended.Minister and minister’s exempt staff - International travel:
