Prairies Economic Development Canada 2023 - 2024
As required by the Treasury Board Directive on Travel, Hospitality, Conference and Event Expenditures, this report provides information on travel, hospitality and conference expenditures for Prairies Economic Development Canada for the fiscal year ended March 31, 2024.
Travel, hospitality and conference expenditures incurred by a federal department or agency relate to activities that support the department or agency’s mandate and the government’s priorities.
Mandate:
To grow and diversify the Prairie economy and advance its interests of the region in national economic policy, programs, and projects. The department will achieve this mandate by working with clients and partners in our four roles as investor, advisor, pathfinder, and convenor. Delivery of strategic programs to Canadians that advance innovation, business development and community economic development in rural and urban areas throughout the prairie provinces.

Explanation of significant variances compared with previous fiscal year
Total travel:
Travel: Compared with fiscal year 2022-2023, departmental travel expenditures decreased by $89 thousand mainly due to the commitment to reduce travel spending, through the Refocusing Government Spending initiative, as outlined in Federal Budget 2023.
Hospitality:
Hospitality: Compared with fiscal year 2022-2023, hospitality expenditures slightly increased by $5 thousand mainly due to strengthening PrairiesCan through stakeholder meetings.
Conference fees:
Conference Fees: Compared with fiscal year 2022-2023, departmental conference fee expenditures decreased by $89 thousand mainly due to the commitment to reduce professional services spending, through the Refocusing Government Spending initiative, as outlined in Federal Budget 2023.Minister and minister’s exempt staff - International travel:
