Secretariat of the National Security and Intelligence Committee of Parliamentarians 2025 - 2026

As required by the Treasury Board Directive on Travel, Hospitality, Conference and Event Expenditures, this report provides information on travel, hospitality and conference expenditures for Secretariat of the National Security and Intelligence Committee of Parliamentarians for the fiscal year ended March 31, 2026.

Travel, hospitality and conference expenditures incurred by a federal department or agency relate to activities that support the department or agency’s mandate and the government’s priorities.

Mandate:

Expenditures on travel, hospitality and conference fees incurred by federal departments and agencies are related to activities that support a departmental or agency mandate and the government’s priorities. In particular, for the Secretariat of the National Security and Intelligence Committee of Parliamentarians, this includes assisting the National Security and Intelligence Committee of Parliamentarians in fulfilling its mandate, and ensuring the Committee receives timely access to relevant, classified information and strategic and expert advice in the exercise of Committee reviews.

Explanation of significant variances compared with previous fiscal year

Total travel:

Compared to fiscal year 2024-25, departmental travel expenditures increase by $130K. The increase is primarily attributed to increased engagement by the Committee and Secretariat with international counterparts.


Hospitality:

Compared to fiscal year 2024-25, departmental hospitality expenditures decreased by $5k. The decrease is primarily attributed to a decrease in Committee meetings during and immediately following the election period.

Conference fees:

Compared to fiscal year 2024-25, departmental conference expenditures increased by $2k. The decrease is primarily attributed to training of new Secretariat staff.
