As required by the Treasury Board Directive on Travel, Hospitality, Conference and Event Expenditures, this report provides information on travel, hospitality and conference expenditures for Canada Border Services Agency for the fiscal year ended March 31, 2024.

Travel, hospitality and conference expenditures incurred by a federal department or agency relate to activities that support the department or agency’s mandate and the government’s priorities.

Mandate:

The Canada Border Services Agency is responsible for providing integrated border services that support national security and public safety priorities and facilitate the free flow of persons and goods, including animals and plants, that meet all requirements under the program legislation.

Explanation of significant variances compared with previous fiscal year

Total travel:

Compared with fiscal year 2022-2023, the Agency total travel expenditures increased by $ 4,919 (10.8%). The increase is due to slight increase in all travel categories.

Hospitality:

Compared with fiscal year 2022-2023, the Agency Hospitality increased by $123 (72.4%) due to a higher number of events, meetings, or activities that require hosting and providing services for guests or stakeholders.

Conference fees:

Compared with fiscal year 2022-2023, the Agency Conference Fees decreased by $15 (12.5%) due to cost-saving measures.
