Annual Report on Travel, Hospitality and Conference Expenditures
Department of Housing, Infrastructure and Communities 2018 - 2019
As required by the Treasury Board Directive on Travel, Hospitality, Conference and Event Expenditures, this report provides information on travel, hospitality and conference expenditures for Department of Housing, Infrastructure and Communities for the fiscal year ended March 31, 2019.
Travel, hospitality and conference expenditures incurred by a federal department or agency relate to activities that support the department or agency’s mandate and the government’s priorities.
Mandate:
The key to building Canada for the 21st century is a strategic and collaborative long-term infrastructure plan that builds economically vibrant, strategically planned, sustainable and inclusive communities. Infrastructure Canada works closely with all orders of government and other partners to enable investments in social, green, public transit and other core public infrastructure, as well as trade and transportation infrastructure.

Explanation of significant variances compared with previous fiscal year
Total travel:
Compared with fiscal year 2017-18, departmental travel expenditures increased mainly due to activities related to the Investing in Canada Plan. INFC is travelling to promote investments in infrastructure, build partnerships, foster knowledge about public infrastructure in Canada and deliver the new program and negotiate integrated bilateral agreements between Infrastructure Canada and each province and territory.
Hospitality:
Compared with fiscal year 2017-18, hospitality expenditures increased as a result of additional stakeholder engagement for initiatives such as the Smart Cities Challenge along with multiple other programs and activities of the department.
Conference fees:
Not applicable (no significant variance)Minister and minister’s exempt staff - International travel:
There was no international travel in 2018-19, the costs for 2018-19 are related to travel taken in 2017-18.
