Explanation of significant variances compared with previous fiscal year

Total travel:

Compared with fiscal year 2023-2024, departmental travel expenditures have decreased by $147,000, mainly due to efforts to reduce travel spending in light of the Refocusing Government Spending (RGS) initiative, as well as the sunsetting of funding for the Federal Pathway to Address Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls and 2SLGBTQQIA+ People.  LAC’s travel expenditures remain below pre-pandemic levels.

Hospitality:

Compared with fiscal year 2023–2024, hospitality expenditures increased by $18,000, mainly due to the Future of Archives and Libraries: How Technology and AI are Shaping Heritage Institutions symposium, hosted by LAC on September 5, 2024.

Conference fees:

Compared with fiscal year 2023-2024, conference expenditures increased by $9,000, mainly due to an increase in participation to various conferences.
