As required by the Treasury Board Directive on Travel, Hospitality, Conference and Event Expenditures, this report provides information on travel, hospitality and conference expenditures for Parole Board of Canada for the fiscal year ended March 31, 2021.

Travel, hospitality and conference expenditures incurred by a federal department or agency relate to activities that support the department or agency’s mandate and the government’s priorities.

Mandate:

Expenditures on travel, hospitality and conference fees incurred by federal departments and agencies are related to activities that support a departmental or agency’s mandate and the government’s priorities. In particular, for the Parole Board of Canada it is to contribute to the Government of Canada’s outcome of a safe and secure Canada by making timely conditional release, record suspension, and expungement decisions and clemency recommendations in an open and accountable manner, while respecting the rights and dignity of both offenders and victims, in accordance with its statutory responsibilities and authorities.

Explanation of significant variances compared with previous fiscal year

Total travel:

In March 2020, the World Health Organization declared the global outbreak of COVID-19 a pandemic. Responses to the spread of COVID-19 had a significant impact on the Canadian and global economies. This impact resulted in significant reductions in travel expenses compared with the previous fiscal year of $1.8 million.


Hospitality:

In March 2020, the World Health Organization declared the global outbreak of COVID-19 a pandemic. Responses to the spread of COVID-19 had a significant impact on the Canadian and global economies. This impact resulted in a reductions in hospitality compared with the previous fiscal year.

Conference fees:

In March 2020, the World Health Organization declared the global outbreak of COVID-19 a pandemic. Responses to the spread of COVID-19 had a significant impact on the Canadian and global economies. This impact resulted in reductions in conference fees compared with the previous fiscal year.
