Explanation of significant variances compared with previous fiscal year
Total travel:
For fiscal year 2023-2024, Parks Canada’s expenditures for travel diminished by $855,000 compared to 2022-2023. The decrease is primarily attributed to the expenses for the Nature Legacy program in 2022-2023. Established in the 2018 budget for a five-year period, the Nature Legacy Fund concluded in 2023 and was not renewed.
Hospitality:
For fiscal year 2023-2024, Parks Canada’s expenditures for hospitality diminished by $62,000 compared to 2022-2023. The decrease is also due to the fact that the Nature Legacy Fund was created in Budget 2018 for a five-year period, expired in 2023 and has not been renewed.
Conference fees:
For fiscal year 2023-2024, Parks Canada’s conference fees expenditures increased by $17,000 compared to 2022-2023. The increase in expenditures is not significant and therefore was not analyzed.Minister and minister’s exempt staff - International travel:
