Public Services and Procurement Canada 2024 - 2025

As required by the Treasury Board Directive on Travel, Hospitality, Conference and Event Expenditures, this report provides information on travel, hospitality and conference expenditures for Public Services and Procurement Canada for the fiscal year ended March 31, 2025.

Travel, hospitality and conference expenditures incurred by a federal department or agency relate to activities that support the department or agency’s mandate and the government’s priorities.

Mandate:

The Department of Public Works and Government Services Canada (PWGSC) was established effective June 20, 1996, under the Department of Public Works and Government Services Act. As of November 4, 2015, PWGSC started operating as Public Services and Procurement Canada (PSPC). PSPC plays an important role in the daily operations of the Government of Canada. It supports federal departments and agencies in the achievement of their mandated objectives as their central purchasing agent, real property manager, linguistic authority, treasurer, accountant, pay and pension administrator, and common service provider. PSPC’s mission is to deliver high-quality, central programs and services that ensure sound stewardship on behalf of Canadians and meet the program needs of federal institutions. Its vision is to excel in government operations.

Explanation of significant variances compared with previous fiscal year

Total travel:

Compared to fiscal year 2023-24, departmental travel expenditures decreased by $0.37 million, mainly due to reduced travel for the delivery of interpretation services following the prorogation of Parliament. The decrease in travel also aligns with the federal government’s Refocusing Government Spending initiative, which aims to reduce organizational expenditures.


Hospitality:

Compared to fiscal year 2023-24, departmental hospitality expenditures decreased by $0.02 million. To support the Refocusing Government Spending initiative, PSPC scaled back hospitality expenditures.

Conference fees:

Compared to fiscal year 2023-24, departmental conference expenditures decreased by $0.1 million. In line with the Refocusing Government Spending initiative, PSPC limited conference activities.

Minister and minister’s exempt staff - International travel:

There were no international travel expenditures by the Minister and Minister’s exempt staff charged to the departmental budget in the fiscal year ended March 31, 2025.
