Royal Canadian Mounted Police 2020 - 2021

As required by the Treasury Board Directive on Travel, Hospitality, Conference and Event Expenditures, this report provides information on travel, hospitality and conference expenditures for Royal Canadian Mounted Police for the fiscal year ended March 31, 2021.

Travel, hospitality and conference expenditures incurred by a federal department or agency relate to activities that support the department or agency’s mandate and the government’s priorities.

Mandate:

The RCMP's mandate, as outlined in section 18 of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police Act, is multi-faceted. It includes: preventing and investigating crime; maintaining peace and order; enforcing laws; contributing to national security; ensuring the safety of state officials, visiting dignitaries, and foreign missions; and providing vital operational support services to other police and law enforcement agencies within Canada and abroad.

Explanation of significant variances compared with previous fiscal year

Total travel:

Compared to fiscal year 2019-20, departmental travel expenditures have decreased by $61.8 million in 2020-21. This decrease relates primarily to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Hospitality:

Compared to fiscal year 2019-20, departmental hospitality expenditures have decreased by $0.8 million in 2020-21. This decrease relates primarily to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Conference fees:

Compared to fiscal year 2019-20, departmental conference fees expenditures have decreased by $0.3 million in 2020-21. This decrease relates primarily to the COVID-19 pandemic.
