Royal Canadian Mounted Police 2023 - 2024

As required by the Treasury Board Directive on Travel, Hospitality, Conference and Event Expenditures, this report provides information on travel, hospitality and conference expenditures for Royal Canadian Mounted Police for the fiscal year ended March 31, 2024.

Travel, hospitality and conference expenditures incurred by a federal department or agency relate to activities that support the department or agency’s mandate and the government’s priorities.

Mandate:

The RCMP's mandate, as outlined in section 18 of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police Act, is multi-faceted.
It includes: preventing and investigating crime; maintaining peace and order; enforcing laws; contributing to national security; ensuring the safety of state officials, visiting dignitaries, and foreign missions; and providing vital operational support services to other police and law enforcement agencies within Canada and abroad.

Explanation of significant variances compared with previous fiscal year

Total travel:

Compared to 2022-2023, departmental travel expenditures in 2023-2024 have increased by $12.5 million. This increase is primarily attributable to increased operational and training related travel and inflation.


Hospitality:

Compared to 2022-2023, departmental hospitality expenditures in 2023-2024 have increased by $0.6 million, which is primarily attributable to operational requirements, the RCMP 150 events and inflation.

Conference fees:

Compared to 2022-2023, departmental conference fees in 2023-2024 have increased by $0.03 million, which is consistent with previous year’s expenditures.
