Purpose:
Ambassador/Special Envoy Dion was in Canada (Ottawa and Montreal) from June 9-16, 2024. The main reason for his visit was the presentation of his annual report to the Cabinet Committee on International Affairs and Public Security, to be held on June 11. This presentation is part of his mandate as Special Envoy, entrusted since 2017 by Prime Minister Trudeau. Alongside this presentation, Ambassador Dion is scheduled to hold a series of meetings with Canadian ministers and senior officials to lay the groundwork for the Canada-France Joint Council of Ministers, to be held this summer in Acadia. At this stage, the following ministers have been targeted: ISED/François-Philippe Champagne, PCH/Pascale St-Onge, NRCan/Jonathan Wilkinson, GAC/Mélanie Joly, DND/Bill Blair, DFO/Diane Lebouthillier. Finally, Ambassador Dion will take part in a panel organized by the Conseil des Relations Internationales de Montréal (CORIM) on June 13 and, on the same day, will be invited to close a conference at the Université de Sherbrooke in Longueuil on the theme of the “political challenge of fighting climate change”.
