Grants and Contributions

About this information

In June 2016, as part of the Open Government Action Plan, the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat (TBS) committed to increasing the transparency and usefulness of grants and contribution data and subsequently launched the Guidelines on the Reporting of Grants and Contributions Awards, effective April 1, 2018.

The rules and principles governing government grants and contributions are outlined in the Treasury Board Policy on Transfer Payments. Transfer payments are transfers of money, goods, services or assets made from an appropriation to individuals, organizations or other levels of government, without the federal government directly receiving goods or services in return, but which may require the recipient to provide a report or other information subsequent to receiving payment. These expenditures are reported in the Public Accounts of Canada. The major types of transfer payments are grants, contributions and \'other transfer payments\'.

Included in this category, but not to be reported under proactive disclosure of awards, are (1) transfers to other levels of government such as Equalization payments as well as Canada Health and Social Transfer payments. (2) Grants and contributions reallocated or otherwise redistributed by the recipient to third parties; and (3) information that would normally be withheld under the Access to Information Act and the Privacy Act.

YEP - Patrick Bandurski

Agreement Number:

1027076

Duration: from Jan 6, 2025 to Sep 8, 2025
Description:

The hire will develop new processes for waste materials conversion, including the recovery and recycling of used abrasives. The hired professional will assist in mass balance calculations and process design, with potential responsibility for scaling the process to pilot-level. Additionally, the candidate will be responsible for testing and evaluating the performance of various slags and waste materials, conducting ASTM tests to assess their suitability as abrasive products and cement replacements.

YEP - Lauren Gibson

Agreement Number:

1021294

Duration: from Aug 6, 2024 to Mar 10, 2025
Description:

Mathematical modelling of granulation and heat transfer phenomenon during the atomized of molten materials into solid particulate. The project will develop unsteady state model for atomization of molten materials at full-scale. The model will also explore new designs for the atomization of molten materials that lead to space savings, and to the recovery of energy from molten materials.

Development of a Mobile Remelting and Granulation Technology

Agreement Number:

993689

Duration: from Jul 1, 2022 to Oct 31, 2024
Description:

The project will develop a mobile remelting and granulation technology platform to up-cycle end-of-life (waste) materials into raw materials and products. Through this platform that brings the solution to the problem, economic realities preventing the valorization of waste streams will be resolved so to create new valuable raw materials for local use, local circular-economies, new local employment, and global environmental preservation.

Ecocrete Pilot Plant

Agreement Number:

935561

Duration: from Nov 1, 2019 to Feb 1, 2022
Description:

The project will test a mobile pilot-plant for converting steel waste into cements. The technology is proven at lab-scale, but clients want to see it perform at a larger scale before adopting it. This project will create the data necessary to justify a first demonstration production plant.
