Grants and Contributions
About this information
In June 2016, as part of the Open Government Action Plan, the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat (TBS) committed to increasing the transparency and usefulness of grants and contribution data and subsequently launched the Guidelines on the Reporting of Grants and Contributions Awards, effective April 1, 2018.
The rules and principles governing government grants and contributions are outlined in the Treasury Board Policy on Transfer Payments. Transfer payments are transfers of money, goods, services or assets made from an appropriation to individuals, organizations or other levels of government, without the federal government directly receiving goods or services in return, but which may require the recipient to provide a report or other information subsequent to receiving payment. These expenditures are reported in the Public Accounts of Canada. The major types of transfer payments are grants, contributions and \'other transfer payments\'.
Included in this category, but not to be reported under proactive disclosure of awards, are (1) transfers to other levels of government such as Equalization payments as well as Canada Health and Social Transfer payments. (2) Grants and contributions reallocated or otherwise redistributed by the recipient to third parties; and (3) information that would normally be withheld under the Access to Information Act and the Privacy Act.

Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) system and pilot demonstration for public transit fleets
1037955
Software development and pilot demonstration project of an AI-powered Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) platform for public transit agencies. By using predictive analytics, the system will shift transit agencies from reactive to proactive maintenance, extending vehicle lifespan and improving fuel efficiency. This will reduce operational costs, improve service reliability, and lower greenhouse gas emissions by reducing the need for new vehicle manufacturing and decreasing tailpipe emissions. The project supports the growth of a Canadian clean technology solution.

Development of Smart Energy System for Telecom
1037538
The project aims to develop cutting-edge hybrid DC-DC converter, LTO battery, and gateway controller, and an integrated system combining all three of them. This includes efficient DC-DC hybrid DC-DC converters with solar and battery inputs and a telecom 48V output, high-performance energy storage LTO batteries with re charging capabilities, and a gateway controller that allows cascading of power modules and communication for monitoring and control of the power system. The objective is to significantly contribute to the progress of integrating renewable (solar) energy and emissions-free, low cost, low maintenance, reliable telecom power systems, and replace diesel generators as a primary source of power.

Building Envelope Energy Saving & De-carbonization Plan
1029588
Buildings account for approximately 50% of total energy use and 40% of total GHG emissions globally.
The building envelope (i.e., the physical interface between the indoor and outdoor environments) is responsible for much of the energy balance that occurs in the building. Of the annual air conditioning heating energy consumption of public buildings, there was about 50% consumed by the heat transfer of the building envelope.
QEA Tech conducts detailed building envelope energy audits using drones and thermography. Our clients can zero in on specific faults in the building envelope to make data-driven retrofit decisions and capital plans. We calculate: i) energy losses and GHG emissions associated with building envelope elements (walls, windows, doors, etc.), ii) remediation/upgrade costs, and iii) projected ROIs of retrofit projects.
Our current project is focused on developing a building decarbonization plan for building envelopes within QEA Tech’s software to augment the current audits completed. QEA Tech aims to further increase our value proposition to customers and lead to greater decarbonization and GHG reductions. This technology initiative will make it easier for clients to obtain internal approvals, carry out repairs and retrofits on the building envelope, and achieve the associated energy and GHG savings. The aim is to make it a seamless process with minimal burden on customer resources to achieve the benefits of building envelope improvements articulated by QEATech.

Catalytic Production of PFA for Water Treatment Applications
1029634
Symbient Environmental Technologies is a Mississauga, Ontario based clean-tech start-up company specializing in the development of enabling process technologies based on catalysis and other engineered nanomaterials. Symbient has patent pending catalyst and process technologies for water treatment, which will enable the point of use production of performic acid (PFA), a non-toxic and sustainable disinfectant which will obviate the need to use chlorine-based disinfectants, thereby eliminating the creation of hazardous chlorination disinfection by-products (DPBs). Symbient’s PFA technology will afford reduced capital and operating costs and result in a substantial reduction in ecotoxicity and climate change impact relative to the incumbent hypochlorite disinfection technology, enabling operators to achieve their regulatory compliance targets.

Synergraze Cattle Feed Additive
1029636
The proposed project by Synergraze Inc. is aimed at commercially growing and processing a natural cattle feed additive based on a strain of algae. At less than one per cent inclusion level, the feed additive is capable of reducing methane emissions in cattle and other ruminants by up to 90 per cent while also increasing the rate of weight gain. As this algae strain has not been grown at commercial scale before, Synergraze Inc. is developing a land-based tank facility to produce and process the algae into a cattle feed additive. The feed additive provides direct GHG reductions by nearly eliminating enteric methane emissions from cattle as well as potential intensity-based reductions associated with improving the rate of weight gain. As a result of this project, the amount of cattle feed additive produced will yield GHG reductions from cattle by 68,400 Tonnes of CO2e per year.
