Grants and Contributions
About this information
In June 2016, as part of the Open Government Action Plan, the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat (TBS) committed to increasing the transparency and usefulness of grants and contribution data and subsequently launched the Guidelines on the Reporting of Grants and Contributions Awards, effective April 1, 2018.
The rules and principles governing government grants and contributions are outlined in the Treasury Board Policy on Transfer Payments. Transfer payments are transfers of money, goods, services or assets made from an appropriation to individuals, organizations or other levels of government, without the federal government directly receiving goods or services in return, but which may require the recipient to provide a report or other information subsequent to receiving payment. These expenditures are reported in the Public Accounts of Canada. The major types of transfer payments are grants, contributions and \'other transfer payments\'.
Included in this category, but not to be reported under proactive disclosure of awards, are (1) transfers to other levels of government such as Equalization payments as well as Canada Health and Social Transfer payments. (2) Grants and contributions reallocated or otherwise redistributed by the recipient to third parties; and (3) information that would normally be withheld under the Access to Information Act and the Privacy Act.

Characterizing the composistion and regolith properties at Reiner Gamma from the orbit to the ground
24EXPROSS2
The Lunar Vertex payload will be delivered to the Moon to study the Reiner Gamma lunar swirl, a bright, unusual marking, collocated with a magnetic anomaly, both of unknown origin. Our main objective is to characterize the composition and regolith properties at the Reiner Gamma swirl from the orbit to the ground, to better constrain its origin. The team will use the orbital remote sensing images and images acquired by a microscope on the rover to characterize the composition and texture of the regolith before and during the Lunar Vertex mission, as the rover drives across the swirl.

SWOT mission to improve knowledge of water balance and connectivity in Canadian lakes
21SUESAMSW
Lakes play an essential role in many economic, social and cultural activities, as well as being important for ecology and biodiversity. This research project aims to improve our knowledge of the water balance and connectivity of Canadian lakes using satellite data and to evaluate the added value of the information for hydrodynamic modeling. The integration of two data sources will be explored: the future SWOT satellite, scheduled for launch in 2022, and the RADARSAT constellation mission synthetic aperture radar.

Aerosols, clouds and aerosol-cloud interaction (ACI) over the Arctic : analysis using aerosol and ACI modelling in support of ground- and satellite- based measurements
21SUASACOA
The goal of the proposed research is to employ state-of-the-art aerosol and aerosol-cloud-interaction (ACI) models in the context of a continuing program of ground- and satellite-based remote sensing and microphysical analysis to help characterize and better understand aerosol and ACI dynamics over the Arctic. The measurement-based approach of this proposal consists of carrying on previous analyses of aerosol and cloud dynamics at the event and seasonal level. The modelling component, by the same token, incorporates a moderate-spatial-resolution model for analysis of long term aerosol statistics a and a high-spatial-resolution, meteorologically-coupled aerosol model for the detailed evaluation of aerosol and ACI events.

Analysis and modelling of microwave remote sensing data for soil moisture and crop phenology monitoring
21SUESAMMI
Terrestrial surface parameters such as soil moisture, vegetation, together with surface roughness, play significant roles in the forecasting and prediction capabilities of hydrological and atmospheric models. The overall objective of this project is to enhance our knowledge in the Earth system sciences, through improved analysis and modelling of combined SMAP and SMOS data along with RADARSAT Constellation Mission data. The new knowledge that will be generated has the potential not only to enhance our theoretical understanding in Earth system sciences, but also to provide information for practical use (crop monitoring, water resources management, etc.).

Development of a multi-scale cryosphere monitoring network for the Kitikmeot region and Northwest Territories using modeling and remote sensing
PKC-NST-1718-0021
The overarching objective of this project is to improve the monitoring of the cryosphere through the development of a monitoring network in order to better predict and assess the multi- levels impacts of arctic climate change.
