Grants and Contributions
About this information
In June 2016, as part of the Open Government Action Plan, the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat (TBS) committed to increasing the transparency and usefulness of grants and contribution data and subsequently launched the Guidelines on the Reporting of Grants and Contributions Awards, effective April 1, 2018.
The rules and principles governing government grants and contributions are outlined in the Treasury Board Policy on Transfer Payments. Transfer payments are transfers of money, goods, services or assets made from an appropriation to individuals, organizations or other levels of government, without the federal government directly receiving goods or services in return, but which may require the recipient to provide a report or other information subsequent to receiving payment. These expenditures are reported in the Public Accounts of Canada. The major types of transfer payments are grants, contributions and \'other transfer payments\'.
Included in this category, but not to be reported under proactive disclosure of awards, are (1) transfers to other levels of government such as Equalization payments as well as Canada Health and Social Transfer payments. (2) Grants and contributions reallocated or otherwise redistributed by the recipient to third parties; and (3) information that would normally be withheld under the Access to Information Act and the Privacy Act.

New Frontiers in Research Fund - Exploration
The Exploration stream of the NFRF program supports high risk, high reward and interdisciplinary research that is not easily supported through funding opportunities currently offered by the three agencies. It seeks to inspire projects that bring disciplines together beyond traditional disciplinary or common interdisciplinary approaches by research teams with the capacity to explore something new, which might fail but has the potential for significant impact. Exploration grants aim to have a variety of types of impacts, some of which might be social, economic, scientific, artistic or cultural. This is not an exhaustive list; other types of impacts are also recognized.

Informing safe and accessible bathroom design for aging in place in Canadian homes
1040854
Many older Canadians wish to age in place, but bathroom accessibility is a major barrier due to space, layout, and retrofit challenges. To date, there is limited guidance for the functional space and configuration requirements to support bathroom maneuvers by individuals who use assistive devices, including 1) WhMD users and 2) people who require a caregiver or support person for bathing or toileting. This study will provide essential evidence to inform discussion for the National Building Code of Canada. Findings from
this work will remove barriers for older adults, while also considering the need for minimum requirements that would allow some accessibility to be provided in tight spaces that are common in the real-world. The widespread uptake of evidence into design practice will be supported by engaging the technical committees developing requirements for the National Building Code of Canada (NBC) in this area.

Evaluating the efficacy and toxicity of intratumoural administration of an anti-EGFR CAR-T therapy in pre-clinical models of cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma
1029941
Patients with advanced cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma (cSCC) who are not eligible for or have failed to respond to anti-PD1 immunotherapy have few treatment options. Epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) directed chimeric antigen receptor -T cell (CAR-T) therapy is a promising strategy; however, off-target toxicity remains a major obstacle due to expression in healthy tissues. To address this concern, the use of intratumoural (IT) administration of NRC’s novel nanobody-based EGFR CAR-T will be evaluated in the pre-clinical model of cSCC. The aims of the study will be to determine the dosage required for tumour control and evaluate the trafficking and functional T-cell phenotypes in IT administration. It is expected that IT administration will lead to substantially fewer CAR-T cells in all biological compartments than traditional intravenous (IV) administration, and that direct injection of cells will result in different T-cell populations within the tumour.
