Grants and Contributions

About this information

In June 2016, as part of the Open Government Action Plan, the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat (TBS) committed to increasing the transparency and usefulness of grants and contribution data and subsequently launched the Guidelines on the Reporting of Grants and Contributions Awards, effective April 1, 2018.

The rules and principles governing government grants and contributions are outlined in the Treasury Board Policy on Transfer Payments. Transfer payments are transfers of money, goods, services or assets made from an appropriation to individuals, organizations or other levels of government, without the federal government directly receiving goods or services in return, but which may require the recipient to provide a report or other information subsequent to receiving payment. These expenditures are reported in the Public Accounts of Canada. The major types of transfer payments are grants, contributions and \'other transfer payments\'.

Included in this category, but not to be reported under proactive disclosure of awards, are (1) transfers to other levels of government such as Equalization payments as well as Canada Health and Social Transfer payments. (2) Grants and contributions reallocated or otherwise redistributed by the recipient to third parties; and (3) information that would normally be withheld under the Access to Information Act and the Privacy Act.

Building a Feminist Coalition for Basic Income Guarantee

Agreement Number:

WP230458

Duration: from Jun 10, 2024 to Mar 31, 2027
Description:

Through this 34-month systemic change project, Women’s Network PEI will scale “Paths to Prosperity” to advance women’s economic security and prosperity. It will scale to re-examine the gendered experiences of poverty in the province of Prince Edward Island (PEI) by investigating how Covid-19, inflation, and the recent affordability crisis has impacted women and people from marginalized communities in PEI. This project will address inequalities related to gender, workforce, and the economy and will explore the gendered experiences in poverty across the province. To do so, it will bring together feminist and social justice organizations for a conference to explore Gender and Basic Income Guarantee in PEI while also mobilizing stakeholders to form a National Coalition of Feminists for Basic Income Guarantee.

With the Supplemental funds and extension provided in early 2026, Women’s Network Inc. will expand the National Feminist Coalition (NFC) to support a GBV-informed Basic Income Guarantee (BIG). The organization will engage in community consultations and training on the BIG Action-Oriented Toolkit for engaging private-sector partners. Support to NFC partners in setting up private sector Community Roundtables on the connection between BIG and GBV will take place as well as a Lobby Day in Ottawa focusing on the economy of healing. A media campaign and webinar series to share the beneficial impacts that a Basic Income Guarantee would have for GBV survivors and their families will take place. Through this they will further advance Gender Equality.

Agreement Number:

Duration: from Oct 3, 2022 to Sep 30, 2027
Description:

Through this 60-month project, the Newfoundland Aboriginal Women’s Network (NAWN) will increase its ability to prevent and address gender-based violence (GBV) against Indigenous women, girls, and 2SLGBTQQIA+ people in Newfoundland and Labrador. This will be achieved by identifying advocacy challenges and opportunities, creating a GBV advocacy strategy and a communication plan, increasing the organization’s capacity to communicate community needs and GBV prevention opportunities, building relationships with 2SLGBTQQIA+ organizations and like-minded organizations, and developing a GBV support and prevention plan.

By the end of the project, NAWN will have strengthened its capacity to prevent and address GBV against Indigenous women, girls, and 2SLGBTQQIA+ people in Newfoundland and Labrador.

With the supplemental funds and extension provided in early 2026, NAWN will further strengthen its capacity to address GBV by training staff, board of directors, volunteers and Indigenous women on GBV prevention, crisis response protocols, evaluation and reporting, partnership development, and other capacity-building skills. The organization will also strengthen its financial sustainability by developing their social enterprises and exploring funding opportunities for growth to support future projects, such as the Cultural Healing and Wellness Centre and an extended supportive housing plan.
