Sand bodies within the Sunchild aquifer subcrop over most of its extent, and because overlying Neogene sediment is relatively thin in the western part of the Paskapoo Formation, the unit expresses itself as the present-day topography. Constructing the Sunchild aquifer-thickness map was somewhat problematic because of the difficulty of mapping the step-like distribution and connection of sand bodies that, in places, are laterally adjacent to muddy intervals. The resultant isopach was generated by subtracting the Lacombe Member surface from the Sunchild surface to yield an approximation of Sunchild aquifer thickness. The Sunchild aquifer thickens from less than 50 m in …
In 2014, the Alberta Energy Regulator (AER) initiated a Play-Based Regulation (PBR) pilot project as a step towards implementation of the Unconventional Regulatory Framework. One of the goals of the PBR pilot is to encourage companies in the unconventional play area to work together on plans for surface development to minimize the numbers of facilities and surface impacts. This dataset is one of a series created using earth observation imagery to assess surface change caused by energy exploration. The PBR area extends from Twp. 52, Rge. 7, W 5th Mer. to Twp. 70, Rge. 5, W 6th Mer., covering the …
This GIS dataset depicts the surficial geology of the NTS map area 83N northeast ( line features). The data are created in ArcInfo format and output for public distribution in Arc export (.e00) and ESRI shapefile format.
All available bathymetry and related information for Telford Lake were collected and hard copy maps digitized where necessary. The data were validated against more recent data (Shuttle Radar Topography Mission 'SRTM' imagery and Indian Remote Sensing 'IRS' imagery) and corrected where necessary. The published data set contains the lake bathymetry formatted as an Arc ascii grid. Bathymetric contours and the boundary polygon are available as shapefiles.
The coal zone boundary for the Ardley Coal Zone is based on subcrops generated by Alberta Geological Survey Special Report 007 (Regional Evaluation of the Coalbed Methane Potential in the Plains and Foothills of Alberta, Stratigraphy and Rank Study). We used additional coal picks from various sources to refine the boundary.
This GIS dataset depicts the surficial geology of the Sturgeon Lake area (NTS 83N/SW) (GIS data, line features). The data were created in geodatabase format and output for public distribution in shapefile format. These data comprise the line features of Alberta Geological Survey Map 577, Surficial Geology of the Sturgeon Lake area (NTS 83N/SW).
This GIS dataset portrays the distribution of glacial landforms within the Calgary-Lethbridge Corridor area, based on the compilation of existing government survey mapping and research literature, supplemented by new analysis of remote sensing data. The original line features have been modified where necessary for map production at 1:250 000 scale. This dataset contains the line features of Alberta Geological Survey Map 579, Surficial Geology of the Calgary-Lethbridge Corridor, and has been exported in a shapefile format for public distribution.
This project generated unique numerical codes at the pixel level to provide wall-to-wall coverage of 128 unique Catchment Structural Units (CSUs) codes based on land use-land cover (LULC), surficial geology, wetlands and slope across the Province. The Provincial CSU layer represents the quantification of combined structural influences at an individual pixel scale, as expressed by a specific numeric and text code. These codes reflect the geospatial layers used to represent catchment structure. The CSU data is presented at a pixel resolution of 20 x 20 m and five initial structural layers (i.e., land cover, land use, surficial geology, wetlands and …
The Geological Atlas of the Western Canada Sedimentary Basin was designed primarily as a reference volume documenting the subsurface geology of the Western Canada Sedimentary Basin. This GIS dataset is one of a collection of shapefiles representing part of Chapter 12 of the Atlas, Devonian Woodbend-Winterburn Strata of the Western Canada Sedimentary Basin, Figure 20, Lower Ireton Isopach and Lithofacies. Shapefiles were produced from archived digital files created by the Alberta Geological Survey in the mid-1990s, and edited in 2005-06 to correct, attribute and consolidate the data into single files by feature type and by figure.
