About this information
In June 2016, as part of the Open Government Action Plan, the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat (TBS) committed to increasing the transparency and usefulness of grants and contribution data and subsequently launched the Guidelines on the Reporting of Grants and Contributions Awards, effective April 1, 2018.
The rules and principles governing government grants and contributions are outlined in the Treasury Board Policy on Transfer Payments. Transfer payments are transfers of money, goods, services or assets made from an appropriation to individuals, organizations or other levels of government, without the federal government directly receiving goods or services in return, but which may require the recipient to provide a report or other information subsequent to receiving payment. These expenditures are reported in the Public Accounts of Canada. The major types of transfer payments are grants, contributions and \'other transfer payments\'.
Included in this category, but not to be reported under proactive disclosure of awards, are (1) transfers to other levels of government such as Equalization payments as well as Canada Health and Social Transfer payments. (2) Grants and contributions reallocated or otherwise redistributed by the recipient to third parties; and (3) information that would normally be withheld under the Access to Information Act and the Privacy Act.

Mitigating Climate Impact in Cox Bazar, Bangladesh

This project aims to improve the climate resilience of communities in Cox's Bazar, Bangladesh. Project activities include: (1) providing liquified petroleum gas (LPG) cooking fuel and pressure cookers to Rohingya refugee families; significantly reduce firewood. This contributes to improved heath, safer living conditions and environmental recovery through reforestation; (2) helping avert deforestation in and around the refugee camps by ensuring a continued supply of LPG, which reduces the negative environmental impacts of relying on firewood, including loss of biodiversity, soil loss and decreased water quality; and (3) reducing the need for women, girls and boys to collect firewood in remote or unsafe spaces, protecting them from the risk of assault or abduction.

Vietnam Initiative for Strengthening Trade (VIST)

The project aims to foster a more inclusive, rules-based trade system in Vietnam by equipping legal institutions and professionals with the tools to shape and implement fair, transparent, and internationally aligned legal frameworks. The project will support Vietnam’s Ministry of Justice (MOJ) in strengthening its legal capacity to better engage in international trade and investment. The key activities of the project include: i) Building long-term legal capacity, especially in trade law and free trade agreements (FTAs); ii) Training government officials and legal professionals in negotiation and dispute resolution; iii) Supporting legislative drafting related to FTAs (pending further clarification); iv) Helping Vietnam meet international ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) standards, which are increasingly important for global competitiveness; and v) Improving the skills of Vietnamese lawyers and arbitrators to handle disputes involving foreign investors and government contracts.

FLAMBEAU - Renewed Women's Voice and Leadership- Benin

The FLAMBEAU project is the renewed phase of the Women's Voice and Leadership (WVL) in Benin, which supports local and regional women’s organizations and networks working to promote the rights of women and girls, strengthen their empowerment, and advance gender equality in developing countries. Recognizing women’s rights organizations and feminist movements as key agents of change, the project aims to strengthen their institutional capacities, support their advocacy efforts, and foster the creation of sustainable networks and alliances, while addressing the chronic funding gaps these organizations face.
This project is implemented by the Paul Gérin-Lajoie Foundation, in partnership with local organizations. It seeks to strengthen the capacity of feminist organizations and vulnerable groups in Benin to promote gender equality, defend the rights of women and girls, and influence public policies, particularly for the benefit of the most marginalized women and girls.

SAFE Haiti aims to prevent the recruitment and use of children by armed groups in Haiti through integrated interventions focused on child protection, social inclusion, and economic empowerment. The project adopts a transformative gender approach, recognizing that girls and boys are exposed to different recruitment risks, requiring tailored prevention and response strategies.
SAFE Haiti provides at-risk children and other vulnerable children with access to essential services, education, health care, nutrition, and psychosocial support in safe and protective environments. Services are designed with gender-sensitive approaches that address the specific needs of girls and boys through case management and referrals to other services, such as reproductive health services for girls and positive masculinity programs for boys.

Strengthening Counterterrorism and Anti-Narcotics Capabilities

This project aims to strengthen the capacity and resilience of the Jordanian military and police to protect the stability of Jordan from threats of terrorism and transnational crime. The project focuses on increasing the surveillance, analysis and investigative skills of police officers to identify and arrest suspected drug traffickers. The project further supports the development of women’s skills in the Jordanian Special Operations Forces to support analysis and planning for counter terrorism operations. Project activities include: (1) Provision of technical advice and mentoring for senior managers on countering transnational drug trafficking. (2) Supplying surveillance and investigative equipment and training to counter drug trafficking. (3) Provision of advice and mentoring on the integration of women soldiers as senior managers in the Jordanian Special Operations Forces (JORSOF).
