The Hamilton Light Rail Transit (Hamilton LRT) project is a 14-kilometre light rail transit line running west-east from McMaster University along Main Street West, King Street West, King Street East, Main Street East, and Queenston Road to Eastgate Square. Project delivery mechanism includes a two-package delivery strategy.

This project builds on the Prince Albert Grand Council (PAGC) Feasibility Study by supporting final activities such as sharing study findings through engagement with PAGC member Nations. It also includes engagement to support consideration of Band Council Resolutions ahead of the PAGC Annual General Assembly, with the aim of advancing decisions on a First Nations Policing Service model.

May 2026 – A rapidly growing Ebola disease outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and Uganda has prompted the World Health Organization (WHO) to declare it a public health emergency of international concern. The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) has launched a regional emergency appeal in response to the epidemic.

With the support of Global Affairs Canada, the Canadian Red Cross Society will support the efforts of national Red Cross societies to provide lifesaving Ebola prevention and response, as outlined in the IFRC’s emergency appeal focusing on: health services including contract tracing and screening; infection prevention and control measures; sanitation and hygiene interventions; as well as community engagement.

Development of a resilient 5G and distributed edge cloud architecture to support mass emergency event management, digital twinning, and mission-critical applications.

The project supports the core capacity of the Canadian Families and Corrections Network to strengthen and sustain services for families affected by incarceration, reintegration, and criminal justice involvement. By maintaining organizational infrastructure and leadership, the project ensures continuity of family support, education, public awareness, and outreach services that strengthen family bonds, enhance resilience, and contribute to reintegration and public safety.

The escalation of hostilities between Hezbollah and Israel in early March 2026 is deepening the existing humanitarian and socio-economic crisis, with the health system particularly impacted. In response, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) revised its Emergency Appeal to reach up to 1.2 million people with critical services, including emergency medical care, food, shelter, and clean water, until December 2027.

With $4 million in Global Affairs Canada’s support, the Canadian Red Cross is supporting the efforts of the Lebanese Red Cross to deliver life-saving humanitarian assistance as outlined in the revised IFRC Emergency Appeal for Lebanon.
Project activities include: (1) delivering emergency medical services, including ambulance services, medical evacuations, and trauma stabilisation; (2) operating hospitals, field hospitals, medical points, clinics, and mobile medical units; (3) providing mental health and psychosocial support services; and (4) distributing emergency relief supplies, including food, water, hygiene items, and shelter assistance.

The John Howard Society of Canada seeks to achieve reductions in crime and improving criminal justice by contributing to infrastructure costs of the network, improving service delivery, researching, increasing public awareness, advocating and influencing reforms in the criminal justice system, and liaising with Public Safety Canada and other federal departments on shared objectives.

The Corrections and Restorative Justice Working Group (CRJWG) of the Canadian Council of Churches (CCC) is a national committee that promotes education, collaboration, and initiatives in corrections, community reintegration, and restorative justice. Through partnerships with key justice-sector organizations, educational activities, and a network of over 760 subscribers, CRJWG works to support safer, healthier communities.

The project supports the core capacity of the 7th Step Society of Canada to deliver peer-based rehabilitation and reintegration services for individuals impacted by incarceration. Grounded in lived experience and community volunteer support, the project strengthens accountability, resilience, and continuity of services that reduce recidivism, support reintegration, and contribute to long-term public safety.

The project supports the core operational capacity of National Associations Active in Criminal Justice (NAACJ) to sustain a national network of voluntary organizations advancing corrections and community reintegration in Canada. By maintaining national leadership and coordination, the project strengthens collaboration, research-informed advocacy, public education, and engagement with Public Safety Canada, contributing to reduced recidivism and improved public safety.
