Grants and Contributions

About this information

In June 2016, as part of the Open Government Action Plan, the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat (TBS) committed to increasing the transparency and usefulness of grants and contribution data and subsequently launched the Guidelines on the Reporting of Grants and Contributions Awards, effective April 1, 2018.

The rules and principles governing government grants and contributions are outlined in the Treasury Board Policy on Transfer Payments. Transfer payments are transfers of money, goods, services or assets made from an appropriation to individuals, organizations or other levels of government, without the federal government directly receiving goods or services in return, but which may require the recipient to provide a report or other information subsequent to receiving payment. These expenditures are reported in the Public Accounts of Canada. The major types of transfer payments are grants, contributions and \'other transfer payments\'.

Included in this category, but not to be reported under proactive disclosure of awards, are (1) transfers to other levels of government such as Equalization payments as well as Canada Health and Social Transfer payments. (2) Grants and contributions reallocated or otherwise redistributed by the recipient to third parties; and (3) information that would normally be withheld under the Access to Information Act and the Privacy Act.

Scaling of Substituting Functionalize Glass into Paints and Coatings

Agreement Number:

1035587

Duration: from Oct 1, 2025 to Sep 1, 2027
Description:

Leverage knowledge gained in surface treatment of recycled soda lime glass to expand commercial effectiveness in latex paints and coatings (including white pigment enhancement) and expand to other platforms including oil-based paints, epoxy resins, silicone elastomers and acrylic adhesives. This will create a first of its kind, Canadian made, revolutionary “green” addition to traditional multi-component industrial products, used all over the world, whose producers are actively searching for environmentally friendly manufacturing materials.
Opta Glass already performs proprietary and unique processing of recycled waste glass that is not possible anywhere else in the world. Expanding product reach beyond ground pozzolan is a game changer.

Substituting Functionalize Glass into Paints and Coatings

Agreement Number:

1022950

Duration: from Oct 15, 2024 to Mar 31, 2026
Description:

Develop new means to incorporate alternate materials including recycled materials in water-based paints and coatings. Some recycled materials have desirable properties compared to other natural solids used in latex paint formulations. The one limitation can be surface charge leading to paint viscosity issues. This project seeks to solve this limitation, leading to a greener paint formulation for architectural paints and coatings.
