Grants and Contributions
About this information
In June 2016, as part of the Open Government Action Plan, the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat (TBS) committed to increasing the transparency and usefulness of grants and contribution data and subsequently launched the Guidelines on the Reporting of Grants and Contributions Awards, effective April 1, 2018.
The rules and principles governing government grants and contributions are outlined in the Treasury Board Policy on Transfer Payments. Transfer payments are transfers of money, goods, services or assets made from an appropriation to individuals, organizations or other levels of government, without the federal government directly receiving goods or services in return, but which may require the recipient to provide a report or other information subsequent to receiving payment. These expenditures are reported in the Public Accounts of Canada. The major types of transfer payments are grants, contributions and \'other transfer payments\'.
Included in this category, but not to be reported under proactive disclosure of awards, are (1) transfers to other levels of government such as Equalization payments as well as Canada Health and Social Transfer payments. (2) Grants and contributions reallocated or otherwise redistributed by the recipient to third parties; and (3) information that would normally be withheld under the Access to Information Act and the Privacy Act.

MesoMat has developed a new form of sensor, plastic based sensing fibres, which can be used to optimize performance, manufacturing and efficiency is some of the world's most widely used industrial materials. MesoMat is combining this fundamental sensing innovation with software and electronics to provide a complete sensing-enabled data platform. This project focuses on the development of the back-end software systems which are required to ingest, process and analyze sensing data from large volumes of sensors to provide new insights into the design, operation and lifetime of products such as tires.

Development of sensing platform for the monitoring of building and construction components
991784
MesoMat has developed a new form of sensor, plastic based sensing fibres, which measure strain in critical components that experience large deformations. This sensing innovation is combined with electronics and software to provide a platform for the real-time monitoring of systems which cannot be measured today, including commonly used components in the building and construction industry. In these applications, MesoMat is developing new methods to implement its platform and utilize the output data for the monitoring of installation procedures, to predict and to prevent failure and to optimize long-term performance.

Strain sensing in performance rubber and plastic components
973506
MesoMat has developed a new form of material sensor, plastic based sensing fibres, which work in systems where traditional sensors fail, including performance rubbers and plastics. MesoMat is using this technology to develop a sensing platform for monitoring critical plastic/rubber components used in oil & gas and nuclear applications. In these applications, failures are catastrophic and therefore monitoring components to ensure correct installation and to help predict failure offers significant value for producers.
