The Ground Search and Rescue (GSAR) teams in OSARVA have the capability to work together through interoperability partly due to a prior SARNIF grant. OSARVA would like to expand on this base by providing consistent team training refreshers, equipment, enhanced communication, and incident management software for every team.

OSARVA would like to expand on this base by providing consistent team training refreshers, equipment, enhanced communication, and incident management software for every team.

This project will be coordinated by the AQBRS Training Advisor, a member of the Board of Directors, and supported by two groups of AQBRS trainers and external experts in civil security and adult education. To achieve this goal, in the first place, a targeted training program and a related toolkit will be developed, program and tools tailored to the specific needs of ground search and rescue volunteers to enable them to respond to situations, situations and emergency. To facilitate the implementation of this program and its sustainability. the project will also include the development of a training of trainers and the holding of two provincial training workshops for this group within the AQBRS. Once the training of trainers is completed, the training program will be delivered directly to AQBRS Ground R & S teams through three regional workshops. Finally, following these various activities. the toolkit will be enhanced, finalized and distributed within the Association and beyond to encourage continuing education in this area and sustainability of the initial project.

This project addresses the Indigenous SAR priority by not only enhancing engagement with, and fostering inclusion of, Indigenous peoples, but goes above and beyond to provide capacity building, peer mentoring, and leadership training. Specifically, Inuit coordinators in the 3 project communities will be trained in satellite imagery interpretation, map development, meeting facilitation and project management, all transferable skills that support the National Search and Rescue Program and community development in general.

The purpose of this project is to enhance the response capabilities of New Brunswick Ground Search & Rescue Teams beyond the current level by acquiring and taking advantage of new training and technology which will increase the survivability of lost persons and decrease the amount of time spent searching for them.
